Essential Home Routines for UK Domestic Portable Spa & Hot Tub Owners

SETTING UP AFTER (RE)FILLING YOUR HOT TUB

Balance your home spa's water or take a sample of your water supply to your dealer for spa water balance recommendations.
Check the pH and sanitizer level of Chlorine/Bromine residual prior to bathing (irrespective of whether your home spa is fitted with an ozonator)
Adjust pH value again, if necessary.

Information on Home Hot Tub / Spa Regular Routines

Daily	Check the sanitizer level and dose as required (irrespective of whether the spa is fitted with an ozonator). Check pH value and dose if / as required.
Weekly	Shock spa with suitable oxidising agent such as Nonchlorineshock or Calcium Hypochlorite. * Add spa clarifier and an anti-foaming agent to enhance clarity and control foaming compounds if necessary. * If you live in an area of high calcium hardness, add a dose of descaling and / or stain control sequesterant.
Monthly	Clean your spa's filter cartridge using a cartridge cleaner. Rebalance your spa water.
Periodically	Empty and fill your home spa or hot tub between every month or every three months (depending on the amount of use) to control Total Dissolved Solids. As a guide, spa capacity in litres divided by daily bathers divided by 12 is a good formula. E.g.: 1200 litres (capacity of hot tub) divided by 2 daily bathers divided by 12 = 50 days. So the water would need to be changed every 7 weeks.

N.B. UK home spas, swim spas or hot tubs fitted with devices such as ozonators will still need a residual sanitizer (Chlorine/Bromine) for treating ongoing spa pollution.
